Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that can strike anyone, no matter age, race or social status. Onset can occur at birth, adolescence, middle age, anytime, or result from illness, injury, brain tumor or unknown cause (idiopathic).
At ESNI, we understand the impact this diagnosis has on the individual and family. As the only non-profit in the area dedicated to serving people affected by epilepsy in the north suburbs, our focus is you! Choose from among our range of services:
Counseling for epilepsy: - Entry for services is quick and easy. Call us at 847-433-8960. Most appointments can be arranged within a 48 hour window.
- All counseling is conducted by one of ESNI’s fully credentialed staff.
- Counseling is available for individuals, couples and families. Additionally, we offer an adult support/discussion group.
- Service assessment begins on initial visit. You and your counselor will determine goals.
- Fees are based upon sliding scale.
In-services: - ESNI staff can provide in-services (an educational presentation about epilepsy) at any school or place of employment. In-services consist of a 20 minute video/DVD, a brief overview of the disorder, first aid instruction, and question and answer session. A pre-arranged appointment is necessary.
Education/Information: - Seizures leave no calling card - no memory, other than the vague feeling that something unusual has occurred. Educate yourself and explore current information at ESNI to help you understand what happens when a seizure strikes. Seizure types and recognition, first aid, and follow-up measures are covered. Literature also available.
Physician Referral: - Insurance restrictions can limit your choices in selecting a neurologist. ESNI’s staff is familiar with local epilepsy centers and physicians specializing in epileptology. Contact us to confirm your selection of a neurologist.
